Rick Santorum and the Perinatal Assessment Center
People who have dealt with frightening or sad reproduction-related matters should know that the following post is about pregnancy. It has a happy ending and a Rick Santorum-directed tirade, but there’s stressful stuff in the middle. Follow me behind the jump if you want to read more.
Two weeks ago, I went to the doctor for a prenatal checkup. If you have never experienced one of these, they...

Ill-Educated Musings on Dog Shows
davebloom:
As for the Herding, I think Raina’s justifiably always on Team Corgi (Pembroke over Cardigan), but I bet she’d agree that just about anything would be more interesting than the German Shepherd, whom she characterizes as sneaky-looking, lurking about like he just stole someone’s wallet…
Team Corgi, all the way. Here’s why - in my head? One day? I am going to be the Queen...

I like how he mentioned to squeeze disdain for feminists, academia, Hollywood, and the media into a single (poorly constructed) sentence.
I’m pretty sure he won a bet with James Dobson for that one.

…and you are a scholar, an academic, a librarian, a student, or an American taxpayer, you should be equally troubled by the Research Works Act. It’s another instance of a powerful media entity trying to undermine open, free access to information via legislation.

Music Marathon Days 56-59
davebloom:
The conclusion!
Albums listened to in full:
Wilco’s The Whole Love. The poisoning of the critical well against Wilco has been a fascinating process to watch. As with any band of Wilco’s stature, there’s always been a vocal minority of dissenters to whom the lively alt-country and pop of their 90s work never made much of an impression, and the widespread praise for Yankee Hotel...

If we’re on day 50+, and 30+ days into 2012, I think the moniker “Music Marathon 2011” is misplaced. Just sayin’.
2011 releases. Heck, Music Marathon 2010 started in early December 2010 and wrapped up in March or April 2011, I think.
With parenthood looming in a few months*, I think this might be the last Music Marathon...

during a guest lecture today I managed to say, in context and without advance preparation, “Maybachs-on-bachs-on-bachs-on-bachs-on-bachs” at which point the largely 18-19 y/o group of students went O.O because they don’t expect their instructors to know stuff like that

Things I have already said today:
convincingindie:
1. “I woke up and was just, like, I WANT TO TALK ABOUT GOOGLE.”
2. “The furniture situation is not an issue.”
3. “My alpaca farm is going to be a neat place.”
I witnessed #1 and #3. It was glorious.
